Part of the new Vienna Central Station will be put into operation at the end of 2012. The progress of this mega-project can be observed from a giant wooden tower. Details on Vienna Central Station
The Südbahnhof express train station is not affected by the closure, and a temporary access point has been provided from Schweizergarten.
During this multi-year conversion phase, the following Viennese stations will serve as replacements for the Südbahnhof:
The eastern section of the Südbahnhof remains in operation. Regional and local trains from the east (e.g. from Bratislava) arrive in Vienna here. Some long-distance trains on the Ostbahn will stop in Vienna-Meidling and at the Westbahnhof. The temporary Ostbahnhof will offer the usual railway services, such as ticket counters, bakers, etc.
A new motorail facility has been built on Matzleinsdorfer Platz, which is taking over operations from the Südbahnhof. Ask for more information when you buy your motorail ticket.

This modernized and expanded station temporarily replaces Vienna's Südbahnhof. It is in the 12th district, at the end of Meidlinger Hauptstraße. All local trains that used to arrive at or depart from the Südbahnhof will now arrive at or depart from this station. The long-distance trains (e.g. from the Czech Republic or Poland) will also end or start at Vienna-Meidling, or will continue through to Vienna Neustadt, with some going as far as Villach.
Ideal connections to the city centre transport network are guaranteed by underground line 6 - Philadelphiabrücke station, tram line 62, various bus lines, express trains and the local Vienna-Baden railway.
The direct airport bus operated by Vienna Airportlines stops at Vienna-Meidling station, in Dörflerstraße.
Vienna's Westbahnhof is where most trains from Western Europe and Western Austria arrive in Vienna. The conversion and modernization works are now complete and Austria's first railway city has opened its doors. A larger shopping mall, a diverse dining experience and, of course, all the services of Austrian Railways are now available at Vienna's Westbahnhof.
The airport bus of the Vienna Airport Lines continues to stop on Europaplatz, in front of the station building.
Here - in the immediate vicinity of the city center - is where the airport express train City Airport Train CAT and the airport express S7 arrive. Check-in for many airlines is also available here. This transport hub near the Ringstrasse is ideally connected to the city center network by two underground lines, tram and bus.
The conversion and modernization work at the station and to the shops and offices will be completed in 2012.
