The MuseumsQuartier (MQ) is one of the ten largest cultural quarters in the world. Located at the border of the old city in the former imperial stables, it combines institutions of different art fields, restaurants, cafés and shops in an area of over 640,000 square feet in a post-modern ambiance, a combination of baroque buildings and modern architecture.
The MQ offers an ambiance that fits the urban lifestyle of its visitors: retaining the old, experiencing the new – and enjoying both of them together. Following this principle, a colorful and varied scene developed amid the setting of eminent museums and collections:
After visiting Schiele, drop in at Café Leopold (Sun-Wed10:00 am - 2:00 am, Thu-Sat 4:00 pm - 2:00 am), which on some evenings delights its customers with its own line-up of DJs. At Café.Restaurant HALLE (daily from 10:00 am - 2:00 am), take a look at the furnishings by the Viennese scene bar designers Eichinger or Knechtl. And the MUMOK Café Restaurant (Mon-Wed & Fri-Sun 10:00 - 6:00 pm, Thu 10:00 am - 9:00 pm) welcomes visitors to MUMOK, the Museum of Modern Art. MQdaily (Mon-Sat 9:00 am - 1:00 am, Sun, holidays 9:00 am - midnight) invites visitors to take a quick break. This is the best place to watch the comings and goings on the large square.
Worth a look is the presentation of the Milo (Mon-Fr I 9:00 am - midnight, Sat 10:00 am - midnight, Sun 10:00 am - 6:00 pm) by Anne Lacaton and Jean-Philippe Vassal in the Architekturzentrum. At Kantine (Mon-Wed 9:00 - midnight, Thu-Sat 9:00 am - 2:00 am, Sun, holidays 10:00 am - midnight), right next to a bookshop, visitors can leisurely enjoy the reading matter purchased next door.
