Art Brut stands for the autodidactic art of lay persons, children and people with disabilities. In recent years, this art has become increasingly established. The Art / Brut Center Gugging has dedicated itself to this understanding since the early 1980s. Today it is one of the most important center for Art Brut and offers its visitors a gallery and a museum.
In the gallery gugging on the ground floor of the Art / Brut Center Gugging, works of established and young artists from Gugging are exhibited alongside works of internationally renowned Art Brut artists and offered for sale. Pictures by Ida Buchmann or by Gugging artists such as Laila Bachtiar, Günther Schützenhöfer and Karl Vondal can be admired here.
The spacious and light-drenched museum gugging was opened on the upper floor in 2006. The permanent exhibition "gugging classics.!" presents the works of artists from Gugging. Regular special exhibitions show works by international Art Brut artists such as Adolf Wölfli, Aloïse, Michel Nedjar and Gaston Chaissac.
Also worth exploring is the shop gugging, where specialized literature, post cards and posters of the works exhibited in the museum and gallery are waiting to be discovered alongside a selection of other attractive items.
