For a new generation of winegrowers, it is no longer sufficient to serve the wine exclusively in wine taverns. They work according to the latest findings, experiment with exotic grape varieties such as the Shiraz, but are simultaneously also rediscovering the traditional “Gemischten Satz”, which is made from several grape varieties grown in the same vineyard.
A visible indication for the mood of change in the Viennese wine scene are the new cellar buildings – modern, functional and also architecturally exacting. Just how young Viennese wine can be is shown in the annual presentation of the “Junge Wieners” in the city centre. The fresh, fruity forerunner of the new vintage affords a particularly great drinking pleasure and is always awaited with excitement.
