The puppets dance for you in the Hofratstrakt of Schönbrunn Palace. Small dreams shaped from wood, to which the operators briefly give charm and soul, bring a world of fantasy, drama and art to life.
A whole evening for adults is regularly offered with Mozart's grand opera "The Magic Flute" and the biographical piece "Johann Strauss - On the Beautiful Blue Danube", accompanied by historic music recordings. For children, there is the Children's Magic Flute, Ritter Camembert and much more.
The Marionette Theater at Schönbrunn Palace has continued an old puppet play tradition since 1994: In honor of the visit by the Prince-Archbishop of Trier, Clemens Wenzel of Saxony, the Marionette Theater gave Prince Esterházy an acclaimed performance of "Alceste" (based on the opera by Christoph Willibald Gluck) in July 1777. This was followed by the construction of a Marionette Theater in Schönbrunn.
The marionettes, costumes, stage scenery and stage technology are produced in cooperation with prominent directors, stage and costumer designers in the theater's own workshops.
