Austria's dance celebrities, locals and guests of Vienna beat down the door on Rochusmarkt. Dance professionals, hobby dancers, world champions and beginners swing their dance leg together. Viennese dance culture is freshly polished and ballroom dancing gets new relevance even outside the ball season.

Vienna dances again

Following the example of large Viennese ballrooms at the turn of the previous century, dancer and dance school operator Thomas Kraml opened the "Ballroom" at Rochusmarkt on the foundations of the former Capitol cinema in October 2018. Recurrently on the program:

  • “Wien tanzt": Every week until the early hours of the morning, live music is danced to and life celebrated on a 500 m² dance floor. In between, professionals show off their skills in dance shows. Urban joie de vivre and traditional dance come together in the ballroom.
  • Latin Night – el sabor de Cuba: The monthly salsa event in the heart of the city. When the sun goes down in Vienna, the cocktail specials from Havana smell of fresh mint and lime, and the dancers conquer the dance floor to the best Caribbean sounds in music history, interrupted only by salsa shows or spontaneous rueda calls.
  • Among other events, the Single Party and the Dancing Stars Club are held monthly. In the case of the latter, a one-hour coaching session is followed by a dance party, so that what has been learned can be used right away.

What’s more, the dress code for all events is smart casual and admission costs about as much as a ticket to the movies.
